Beginning in the summer after the first year, all students must complete their first clinical practicum in the SDSU Psychology Clinic. The experience is an intensive introduction to doing clinical work, spending a year seeing a small number of community based patients under video-monitored supervision by two different supervisors.

After the first practicum year at SDSU, students move to work within the broad array of practicum sites and diverse patient populations available to us through both universities and the affiliated VA San Diego Healthcare System and Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. Most of these sites are the same ones available to pre-doctoral interns in the UC San Diego/VA San Diego APA-accredited internship, thus affording our students the opportunity to work with and learn from other trainees at multiple levels, from graduate student through post-doctoral fellow. Clinical activities, integrated with more formal instruction at all levels, increase in responsibility and independence in the later years of the program as students acquire greater clinical proficiency.

Practicum options for the current academic year can be found under the Student Handbook/Clinical Practicum/Practicum Placements page and will be updated annually.

Each practicum placement is for one year.
