Within the SDSU/UC San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology (JDP), the program is organized into three Major Areas of Study: (1) Experimental Psychopathology, (2) Behavioral Medicine, and (3) Neuropsychology. JDP students are admitted to a specific major area of study to provide students with the opportunity to focus their training on a specialized area within clinical psychology. The selected major area of study will guide the student’s course selection and clinical training beyond the core curriculum required of all JDP students.
Major Area of Study Training Requirements:
- A full year’s seminar in the scientific and clinical aspects of the major area of study.
- Clinical practica in the major area of study across advanced years.
- Advanced seminars and didactics, typically taken in conjunction with clinical practica.
- A comprehensive examination or its equivalent (e.g., formal research grant proposal or major research literature review).
- Substantial research experience in the area, including a Second Year Project and Dissertation germane to the major area of study.
