United Women of East Africa Support Team (UWEAST) is a California Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation comprised of approximately 100 East African women with the goal of responding to the overlooked health needs of East African women and their families that affects their well-being.

Jessica McCurley (current 5th year JDP student) occasionally volunteers at the UWEAST refugee center.  She was recently asked to do a career-mentoring workshop for them in March as part of their Connecting Souls workshop series. Jessica talked to the high school girls about her own educational path, how she got into and financed school, career plans, and why she loves working in psychology/mental health. The workshop series invites different female professionals across many fields once a month to come and talk to the girls in the group.
