Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP)
San Diego State University offers Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP) to all graduate students. GSHIP is designed to ensure that our graduate students have health, vision, and dental coverage to support their health and wellness throughout their course of study. The program provides students direct support in either obtaining affordable healthcare coverage, if they are not yet covered, or verifying their existing health insurance.

The mission of the Student Health and Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.
Student Health and Well-Being services include:
- Student Health Services (Available for students paying tuition and fees at UC San Diego)
- Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
- Health Promotion Services
- Office for Students with Disabilities
- UC Center Recreation (FREE for students paying tuition and fees at UC San Diego)
UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP)
UC San Diego offers UC SHIP – Student Health Insurance Plan to all graduate students. UC SHIP is a student-focused benefits package for UCSD graduate and undergraduate students, including strong medical, behavioral health, pharmacy, dental, and vision care benefits. UC SHIP is compliant with the Affordable Care Act requirements and works to complement your care at the Student Health Services right on campus. Enrollment is automatic for registered students; waiver application is also available.
