The APA selected Taylor Clark’s recent systematic review titled eHealth Weight Loss Interventions for Low-Income Adults (Clark et al., 2023) as an “Editor’s Choice” article in Health Psychology. This recognition is given to papers expected to have a notable impact on the field.
Taylor’s review investigated how eHealth programs are tailored for low-income adults and whether these programs are effective in achieving recommended weight loss targets. The review found limited evidence to suggest eHealth weight loss studies achieved meaningful weight loss among low-income groups, however, programs that were more tailored to this population tended to work better.
Taylor notes that as eHealth continues to flourish, additional studies with more rigorous methodology are needed to build our understanding. She also suggests we reconsider our weight-centric approach to obesity, which has been shown to be more harmful than helpful in some cases.
Overall, Taylor’s work reflects the significance of advancing psychological science for societal and individual benefit.
