Aaron J. Blashill, Ph.D. is a clinical health psychologist who received his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University in 2011. He comes to us from Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Staff Psychologist in the Behavioral Medicine Service. At SDSU, Dr. Blashill will be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and core faculty member of the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Upon arrival at SDSU, Dr. Blashill will direct the Body Image, Sexuality, and Health (BISH) lab, which focuses its research on the role body image plays in influencing health behaviors. Dr. Blashill is particularly interested in studying HIV medication adherence, HIV sexual transmission risk behaviors, sexual orientation health disparities, skin cancer prevention, and anabolic-androgenic steroid misuse. Dr. Blashill also investigates vulnerable developmental phases, including adolescence and emerging adulthood, and employs a broad range of scientific methods and statistical analyses to investigate these issues (incl. treatment development and randomized clinical trials, longitudinal analysis, mediation, moderation, meta-analysis, and psychometric evaluation). Dr. Blashill looks forward to joining the faculty at SDSU in the Fall of 2015 and is happy to talk to interested students and faculty about any of these research topics.
