Rebeca Jimenez gave an oral presentation at the International Congress of Behavioral Medicine (ICBM) in September 2023 in Vancouver, Canada! Her presentation was titled “The association of neighborhood adversity with depression and anxiety symptoms in a low-income migrant community on the U.S.-Mexico border.”
Melanie Gomez presented a poster at the Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) in summer 2023 in Colorado. Her poster was titled “Promotoras suggest sustainability can be achieved by…”
Dalia Tabibian presented a poster at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) conference in November 2023 in Seattle, WA! Her poster was titled “Examining Social Support in the Association Between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Attention Problems to Young Adult Psychological Well-being.”
Dongbowei Zhang presented a poster at the American Psychological Association conference in August 2023. Her poster was titled “Influencing BPT-related Parenting Attitudes through a Culturally-Personalized Intervention.” She was awarded the Best Research Advancing DEI Poster Award, from the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (APA Division 53)!
Celeste Estrada presented a poster at the Research Society of Alcoholism (RSA) conference in Seattle, WA. Her poster was titled “Is there a Relationship Between Covid-19 Related Stress and Alcohol Use in College Students?” She was awarded the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) Diversity Supplement, which is a sponsored supplement to support qualified and outstanding researchers from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research. She will be further investigating the role of primary language on BRAIN-online performance in young adults and the interaction of primary language and FASD diagnosis on BRAIN-online performance in youth.
Judy Mahmalji presented her poster in September 2023 at the FLUX Conference of The Society for Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience. Her poster was titled “Early Brain Connectivity Patterns Predict Language Skills in Preschoolers with ASD.” She was awarded the Jerome M. Sattler & Family Endowed Scholarship Award and the Graduate Equity Fellowship in June 2023! Judy also was awarded the SDSU Graduate Student Travel Fund and Cal Coast Cares Foundation Scholarship this semester!
Shea O’Donnell presented at the first annual SDSU Pride Center Research Symposium. Their presentation was titled “The Impact of Sexual Orientation on the Experience of Living with Endometriosis.”
Matthew McArthur gave a talk at the UCSD Center for Research in Language in October 2023. He spoke about the benefits and application of web-based early language assessment. During the talk he introduced the Web-Based Computerized Comprehension Task, an online language assessment available in both English and Spanish that they developed in their lab with Dr. Margaret Friend.
