Terry Cronan led a program that boosted graduate research opportunities for minority students studying mental health.

For the past 10 years, SDSU professor Terry Cronan headed Career Opportunities in Research — a grant-supported program aimed at helping underrepresented and disadvantaged students access Ph.D. programs for mental health research.

Cronan wrote the grant for the program and directed it from the beginning.

Through the program at SDSU, Cronan placed 40 students in graduate programs — most of whom came back to campus this summer to celebrate the successful conclusion of the program.

The students came from New York, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Arizona to honor the program’s accomplishments and the woman who made it all possible.

The students presented Cronan with an award recognizing her mentorship and dedication to the program.
