The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is excited to announce the recipients of the 2022 Diversity Excellence Awards! The Diversity Excellence Awards recognize faculty, staff and alumni / community members who have shown an exemplary commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice. Nominations were received between and the accomplishments of the nominees were evaluated for their quality and their contribution to diversity and social justice.
“Dr. Allison Vaughn is an Associate Professor of Psychology and the Associate Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning. Since 2008, she has integrated the core values of JEDI into all aspects of her career at SDSU. In her scholarship, she examines social relationships, stigma and health, and mentors her students (both undergraduate and graduate) in diversity scholarship. Her teaching philosophy is built on a foundation of diversity, equity, inclusion, and empowerment of students. From GE courses to research methods and health psychology, she uses the principles of psychology to better the academic lives of students while supporting and prioritizing their mental and physical health and social relationships. In her role at CTL, she has prioritized the teaching development of graduate students in inclusive pedagogical practices and is focused on supporting faculty more holistically. Her service and leadership is wide ranging at the department, college, and university level. She has served two terms in the senate, chairs the CoS Diversity and Inclusion committee, is a CoS Diversity Liaison, served on the Senate DEI Committee, helped develop and run the SafeZones@SDSU program since its inaugural training class, and mentored Psi Chi – the international honor society in psychology – for 12 years, earning international recognition for that work”.
Congratulations to Dr. Allison Vaughn on being awarded the 2022 faculty diversity excellence award. This is a well deserved recognition for Dr. Vaughn. The award recognizes Allison’s exemplary commitment to diversity and inclusion, and specifically contributions made to her students and the campus community.
