Linda Abarbanell, associate professor in the Department of Psychology, was selected for the Outstanding Transborder Research Award, which recognizes faculty members whose transborder scholarship innovation promotes global education.
As part of her research, Abarbanell and her students regularly visit Chiapas, Mexico to survey members of the Tseltal Mayan community. She asks questions about how religious and scientific beliefs related to illness, natural disasters and other topics are influenced by education and intervention programs. She has worked with this population for over 15 years as part of international and interdisciplinary teams.
Abarbanell and the other two honorees will present their work at the Faculty Global Engagement Symposium and Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. in the Montezuma Theater & Foyer in Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. The ceremony is part of International Education Week and the Re:Border Conference.
