Participation supported through UNLV HSI Resource Hub and NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education grant.

Emilio C. Ulloa, associate chief diversity officer for MSI Affairs and a psychology professor at SDSU, has been accepted into the 2026 American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) New Leadership Academy (NLA) Fellows Program

This nationally recognized NLA Fellows Program focuses on strengthening leadership capacity in higher education, with particular attention to leading effectively in complex and contested environments.

The program encourages participants to examine their leadership choices and responsibilities, the influence they have on others and their role in advancing institutional success and community impact. Fellows engage in a rigorous curriculum designed to foster accountability, reflective practice and values-driven leadership.

“The New Leadership Academy offers a powerful space for faculty to reflect on how leadership shows up in their daily work, especially within institutions like ours that are committed to equity, student success and community impact,” Ulloa said. “This fellowship is an investment not only in individual leaders, but in the collective capacity of HSIs to navigate complexity with purpose and integrity.”

Participation in the program is supported by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas HSI Resource Hub and the National Science Foundation’s Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: HSI Program grant.

In addition to the core NLA curriculum, fellows will take part in specialized learning opportunities curated for STEM faculty at emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). This includes additional readings, webinars and sustained engagement with a national community of STEM HSI faculty.
